MEET LOU
Written by: Frankie Jessome
I am progressive and I am fatal
Until muscle movement is no more
A degeneration of motor neurons
Is me at my inner core
You still have your mind intact
Hearing, vision and touch remain at norm
Although pain is no major threat to you
I urge you to prepare for my storm
I won’t tell you where I come from
I will keep you guessing you see
Because as long as you don’t know
Your life will stay haunted by me
So let science do its part
But really, how much can it do
It may make life a little easier
And may even shed a clue
Many of you will know I’m coming
When you start to trip and stumble
Manual dexterity may also be waning
Oh, can’t you see I am humble
For some, speech will be the issue
Nasality, slurring and low volume is my game
Loss of speech is in your future
And swallowing will never be the same
Don’t go getting the wrong impression
I know you don’t stand alone
With family, friends and caregivers
All hoping to send me home
You need help on a daily basis
And sometimes you will wonder why
The simplest tasks are out of reach
You will sit and watch yourself die
With thoughts of long ago
Right up until you met me
You remember the good times you had
Your life was full of glee
Then I came along, full of rage
And wreak havoc on to thee
But there is one force I can’t match
And that’s just how it has to be
Your Lord and Almighty Saviour
Will bring you home, and set you free
“After one look at this planet any visitor from outer space would say "I want to see the manager."
