‘DIAMONDS OR AUTUMN LEAVES?’

Although we are heavy into the fishing and the blueberries, and our lives are busy, constantly busy, I think we still need to touch base with our friends. So we plan to go to Trinity, NL, about an hour from where live, with our friends Gene and Lorraine, early next week, to a dinner theater and we have also made plans to go fishing together.

I looked at this shot and I remembered a poem my Mother used to say to us if we had been hurt by a ‘false’ friend.

It goes like this:

'TRUE FRIENDS ARE LIKE DIAMONDS,
PRECIOUS AND RARE.
FALSE FRIENDS LIKE AUTUMN LEAVES,
FOUND EVERYWHERE!'

I have remembered Mother's words many times throughout my life when false friends caused me heartache.

Lorraine and I have been friends for 40 years. We have never had a 'falling out' as Father calls it. So----- she is a 'diamond' in my life, and a steadying influence if I get quick to anger, or feel upset over 'anything'-there is always Lorraine. Even all those years I spent away from Newfoundland did not diminish our friendship. If anything it grew stronger.

On this beautiful sunny summer day, I took the photos off my camera and I had forgotten, being so busy, that Joe had taken this shot of us, and how she loved my yellow Choc clogs and the great laugh we had in the Big Blueberry Patch in the front of our house.

So, I took the time to sit and think about her, our friendship, and decided to share it with you also. How many 'DIAMONDS' do you have, or how many 'AUTUMN LEAVES'?

I have several Diamonds, and I hope you do as well.

It gives me pause to think, and I decided I will never take this precious friendship for granted again.

Lorraine and her Pilot husband Gene run an Outfitting business for salmon fishermen who want to fish salmon in our inland rivers, or hunt moose on the vast, open country. In fact, they recently flew a newly married young couple into one of their lodges that is accessible only by air. They wanted to fish salmon for their honeymoon.

The 'Gene and Lorraine' team saw that they got there safely, as they always do. They offer nothing but the best to their guests.

That is the 'bit of a rant' from me to you.

She truly is a 'DIAMOND' to me!!

I hope I am one to her as well.
And I just had to share it!!
