Grab Bars

bullet

nailing bases (reinforcement) in side walls near the toilet, in the wall behind the toilet and in the walls surrounding the bathtub and shower with a view to installing grab bars at some future date make sure that this backing is securely fastened in place and has no chance of pulling out

bullet

there is no defined way or height for grab bars.  It is a good idea to add lots of blocking inside walls even if it is never used, a good idea is to make a small drawing of the bathroom so you know where the blocking is so you can easily find it if you need to install more grab bars in the future.  Naturally grab bars that work for a 6` person will not necessarily work for someone 4`6" so it is best to plan ahead as it will save you lots of headaches down the road

bullet

if you install grab bars, ensure they are 30 mm to 40 mm (1 1/4 in. to 1 5/8 in.) in diameter for easy grasping, and approximately 35 mm to 45 mm (1 1/2 in. to 1 3/4 in.) from the wall
