Al Temple Receiving Medal

On November 6, 2004, at the Minto Armouries in Winnipeg, Al Temple and twenty-five other World War II Veterans, all members of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, were presented with the "Carpiquet Medal." The medal, which was presented by the Defence Attaché of the French Embassy in Canada, honours the veterans who fought to free the town of Carpiquet, and the strategic Carpiquet Airfield, in France. Al landed with the second wave on Juno Beach on D-Day. He was wounded in 1945.

Al was diagnosed with ALS in November 2002. He was an active member of the Legion Colour party for many years and continues to be a member of the Legion in Regina.
